This is hand rendered using a wacom tablet and Adobe Illustrator CS3.. And is my entry in this years New York Surf Film Festival t-shirt contest. Anyone in the New York area that is able to attend this event I highly recommend it, their are some remarkable surf films being shown.. I was able to attend the premiere for Clay Marzo’s film (Just Add Water) here in Wilmington last summer, it was awesome.

Wedding Invites, 2009
Being a designer means not having to pay somebody an outrageous amount of money to get your invitations printed… Like a lot of people these days, we were also on a budget, so inkjet printer and nice paper was the way to go (a little labor got us rounded corners and a custom-sized card, printed full-bleed to boot).
I did the illustration work while my lovely wife handled typography and a vector-drawn map (carefully edited and simplified) for directing people to the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception.
Our theme was travel, but we also wanted to show people the side of Wilmington, North Carolina that we really appreciated, the raw natural beauty of the ocean and pines. I think my illustration captures that pretty well, and the watercolor manages to be soft and organic without coming off as cheesy.

This was my first show! “Take Me Alive” is sort of a tongue in cheek reference to the idea of fame only after death, enjoyed by so many artists throughout the ages. The flyers were done in acrylic and pencil on mylar…

The actual event took place at a small cafe in Abbotsford, BC, conveniently located next to Replay skate-shop. I had about twenty different pieces, from small pencil drawings on illustration board to several acrylic canvases. A good friend of mine spun records and I served free burritos for the price of admission. The show was a total success and it was really inspiring to be able to share my work with so many people.
